Have recently bought a Mk 2 1.8. Having been caught out in the past I decided to buy a spare alloy and tyre to keep at home so that I could change the 'get you home' spare supplied with the car without any hassle. I specifically asked for the spare to be exactly the same as the tyres fitted to the car, ie Yokohama A460 185/60 R14 82V. However when I collected the car the spare turned out to be a Dunlop Sport 200 185/60 R14 82H. The dealer was adamant that it was not possible to get hold of the Yoko tyre in this country and said that there would be no problem using the Dunlop with the Yoko. I have since found a tyre supplier who can supply me with the tyre I wanted in the first place. I have asked the Mazda dealer if he will take back the Dunlop to no avail. Anyway, to get to the point - is it OK to use the Dunlop on the same axle as the Yoko long term if necessary? (12/99)

When you ordered your car you must have signed a order form right? On this form what did it say regards the extra alloy wheel and tyre? If it's there in black and white for the wheel and tyre to be exactly the same as the tyres fitted to the car you are covered.

He has supplied
a) the wrong make
b) the incorrect speed rating specified by the Mazda.

I'd tell the dealer either have a Yoko fitted to your spare wheel or leave him with said wheel/tyre and go elsewhere but then again he probably has your money by now?

If he refuses to accept either options only the small claim court remains and you wouldn't be able to go back for the 1st service or warranty work!! (12/99)

Ask him for details of his head office. Then *write* explaining the situation and copy his contacts at head office. Say you do not regard have different tyres on the back as acceptable. Also explain that the tyre he fitted is not V speed rated and therefore not to Mazda specification for the vehicle. (12/99)
