A friend of mine (no, it is really!!) is considering fitting Wire Wheels to their '5 2 questions really, what do people think of the idea?

She's really struck on the idea, but doesn't like the idea of people taking the Pee, if everyone else thinks they look naff - opinions please. The other question is where to go about obtaining such animals in good condition. Tried the Moss site, as they do them for the Triumphs and such.

Only problem there is the biggest they do in 14" is 5.5" wide, whereas the stock '5 ones are 6" aren't they? I guess it's feasible to fit them, but do we really want less rubber on the road? Plus of course, her existing tyres go in the skip! (8/00)

They're very heavy, will wreck the handling and general road feel of the car, and are a nightmare to keep clean. (8/00)
Wobble ..wobble wobble.. that's why they went to alloy wheels .. you will probably be able to feel the wire wheels distorting as you go around corners .. just like you can the sidewalls on the tyres.. so the reduction in the width is the least of your problems I suspect... .. or someone would make some custom ones for 2-2.5 k GBP... I've got wire wheels, I'm not sure they are much heavier than standard steel, handling's fine - they are a sod to clean though! (8/00)
They are HEAVY! End of story (8/00)
They look really good. My model as standard is supposed to have gold ones. On the negative side they cost a small fortune (only slightly less than split rims) so there not worth the effort. BBS's are better. Last weeks autotrader had on of the firms in leeds doing BBS style 16" alloys with tyres for 399 and they're nearly wire wheels. Probably + VAT (8/00)
