Does anyone know if the wing mirrors on early roadsters are all the same? Reason for asking is I need a passenger side mirror, I phoned the Mazda garage and they said as it was an import, they needed:

1. The chassis number?
2. Year of manufacture, NOT THE YEAR IT WAS REGISTERED IN THIS COUNTRY
3. Right-hand drive or left-hand drive (I knew the answer to this one)
4. Territory it was built for (was it made for the Japanese market?)
5. Are the mirrors manual or electric?

I can understand the last one and number 3 but why do they need a chassis number?? This is the first part I've bought from Mazda, is this the "oh its an import" syndrome I've heard so much about?? (6/00)

Tell them to get you a standard MX-5 mirror and also tell them to stop being so silly. (6/00)
Should be exactly the same; the mirror housing should arrive prepainted from the factory. Try Jay Ng at Powerdrift; I got a brand new set from him for £80. (6/00)
I'd give Jay Ng a call if I were you and get one from him instead. (6/00)

A manual mirror will fit any MK1 from any country. From 93/94 onwards the hole in the door panel was made slightly wider to accommodate the needs of the electric mirror, but this won't affect a manual one. The mirror is held by just two screws. Lift the plastic cover using either something plastic or a screwdriver with some card in place to protect the panel. The screws then undo BUT they are often very rusty and need plenty of WD40 and a bit of grunting. I had to saw a slot in one of mine to shift it. I fitted electric mirrors to a 92 so know a few things about mirrors!

Get the mirror in the right colour from your dealer, or try and find a used one around. Fitting takes just a few minutes one the screws shift! (6/00)

This is the norm now, takes a few days but at least Mazda UK will (grudgingly) supply parts for roadsters now.At a price no doubt, phone around some scrappys bound to save a packet. (6/00)
