| Silly question but I am trying to source an ABS
Mk1 windscreen washer bottle with associated brackets .. and there
seem to be none to be had bar paying Mr Mazda some serious dosh
.. so the thought goes .. what about Mk2s.. So where is the windscreen
washer reservoir on these cars ? ... and do they have a bulkhead
fitted one as the Mk1 with no ABS? .. can find a Mk2 in a breakers..
but no Mk1 ABS ones... and guess what ... the Mazda sales brochure
has one poor photo of the rocker covers .. nay use tee man nor'
beast! (4/00) |
| ISTR The bracket was only about 12 quid. How much did they want
for the bottle? You'll also need the filler hose, but you can easily
make one of these, I guess. There's also a cover the goes over the
bottle, and without this the connections could get very damp. And
now you've got me wondering if maybe the wheel arch lining might
be different. :-( (4/00) |
| Had to fit one of those reservoirs when installing my abs...wheel
arc lining is the same...no probs...imagine the complete reservoir/bracket/filler
hose combo is expensive though... had to pay about £25-30 only for
the mounting bracket...the old one on the donor car had completely
rusted through and this was on a '94! (4/00) |

OK, I fished out my receipt.
Bracket, Washer Tank, NA1767521 14.65 + VAT = 17.21 Then I got
10% OC discount.
As said above, the wheel liner is standard I guess you just need
bottle, bracket, filler, bottle cover. The bottle seems to have
a sensor for washer fluid low - I've never seen this light on
and don't know if it works! (4/00)

Bugger, paid too much then...
The light doesn't work, but with a little modification on the
circuit board of the instrument cluster you can make it work.
more info about this on my site

| Cost of bottle, one bracket and filler 75 GBP ex VAT .. there
is a custom cover from my manual .. 20 GBP .. so complete is about
120 GBP inc VAT. I nearly bought it .. had one more place to try
who were looking .. and they found it .. he owed me a favour so
20 GBP +VAT + delivery should put me about the 35 GBP mark. (4/00) |

Ever had your car do a 'Gazza' and dribble water out of the
washer jets after a drive? (probably only for early cars with
the washer bottle up top by the windscreen)
Well I did and it was bloody annoying to have a water stain all
down the bonnet after waxing it. The problem is caused by the
washer bottle being too tightly sealed! When the engine warms,
it warms the washer bottle, and the air and water inside. The
air expands as it heats, pressurising the bottle. The only way
for the pressure to equalise is to force water out of the bottle
and out the jets all over the bonnet.
Cure: drill/punch a small hole in the lid of the washer bottle
this allows the pressure to equalise. Hey presto! No more tears!
