| My wheel nut search is over, elite design do some
for 2.35, mazda do them for 3.35 (both are inc VAT). However, my
friendly Mazda parts man, had some second hand ones which he did
for me at a reasonable price. (2/00) |
| I talked the Mazda dealer into giving me some for 1 each. I then
bought some locking ones off him £32.41 + vat. A bit steep
but what I saved on the nuts + their better than the ones I saw
in a shop. (2/00) |
| I was wondering if I need to purchase some new wheels nuts.
I sort of thought the ones that are holding on my steels wheels
would be okay and I'll just need buy some locking ones. Are there
different versions nuts for steel and alloy wheels? (2/00) |
| I was running on the steel ones for a week or so. They just don't
look as good as nice shiny nuts. (2/00) |

My roadster came with the special edition 15" BBS alloys.
Over the past fortnight I've been trying to find some locking
wheelnuts that will fit the alloys and allow the BBS centre cap
to be refitted. I've tried 4 different kits, including a couple
from Mazda, which fit but you can't put the center cap back on
- has anyone got any experience with these alloys? If so, have
you managed to find any locking wheelnuts that fit?
My second point, which sort of follows on from the first,
is does anyone know where I might be able to source a couple of
replacement BBS centre covers? Some git knicked them over the
weekend!!!! DOH! At the rate they're going, I'm not going to need
to find special locking wheelnuts!
If it looks like I'm not going to have any success with these
alloys, I'm tempted to get some new 15" alloys. Any recommondations?

| Have you tried a set from Halfords? I have these on ours and they
seem quite 'low profile', don'y have centre caps though. (3/00) |
| Yep, tried the Halfords kit with no success! It has been the best
kit so far though. (3/00) |
| Demon Tweeks may be able to help
you. They do a good selection according to the 'blue' (road)catalogue.
e.g. page 7 shows some TSW locking bolts with a sort of castellated
head rather than the standard hex-head. The equivalent locking nuts
aren't shown but presumably they employ the same method and if so
this should keep them 'low profile'. As for BBS centre covers, try
asking Demon Tweeks while you're on the phone to them... (3/00) |
| Recommend .. being creative with the BBS .. they are far superior
to anything you are going to buy unless you want to spend 170 GBP
per wheel for the BBS... and that 70 GBP per wheel pays for custom
made centres by a sign manufacturer .. I nearly did this on my last
wheels .. but ended up with castor cups from B&Q .. with a bit of
work with a file they were a perfect fit and no-one could tell the
difference.. (3/00) |
| Does anyone know the torque settings for alloys? (5/00) |
|
The figures I've got for Mazda alloys are:
lb/ft 65-85 or NM 88-116
I've got figures from another source (not sure where) which
are:
lb/ft 59-74 or NM 80-100.
For simplicity, I've been using 100NM and I am happy with the
result. (5/00)
