Going in a bit quick and turning sharply (or late) and the mx5
will understeer like a good 'un even in the dry. It's even more
noticeable on track days ;-). Happens every time I go round one
particular corner that tightens up near where I live. No matter
how I adjust the car's turn in and power application I cannot
provoke the slightest bit of oversteer on that corner (won't stop
me trying tho' :-)), neutral is the best I get.
Oversteer/understeer all depends on speed, turn in, road surface
conditions suspension set-up, front and rear tyre pressures, power
application, braking etc etc. The mx5 can do either given the
right conditions. I wouldn't necessarily worry about understeer
in heavy rain, but if it there was a lot of bad understeer in
the dry then it would be worth checking a few things. (4/00)
