Was reading last night that cars from Japan are not "undersealed" and that this should be done when they imported. I thought "inferior rust proofing" was an Eunos myth but maybe not? Has anyone had their car "undersealed" if so where? what did it cost? etc. (4/00)

IMHO undersealing doesn't work. What happens is that water eventually finds its way underneath the underseal and gets trapped there - and the rust is then even worse.

Best thing to do is to pressure wash the underside, once (in Spring, after salting has finished) or twice (in Autumn as well) a year, and inspect for any damage and rectify if found. Get rid of all the accumulated mud deposits.

It's also a good idea to spray Waxoyl ( the wax treatment, not the black gunge paint) around (and inside box sections) - bit of a messy job. But stay away from bituminous type underseals. (4/00)

Myth I suspect .. most UK cars I have looked under are not well rustproofed .. they all rely on the more effective painting processes now available (since '80s that is ..)

Undersealing with black gunk is .. as quoted by John .. bad .. but waxoyl or Dinol is a good idea .. the stock underseal is perfectly adequate but I would worry about the unseen bits ..

However 95% of UK cars have run around for up to 10 years with no treatment .. and any you give it would be a bonus not a necessity (4/00)
