I was just wondering....I have an old style mx-5 (1995)....and its specifications are widely reported by Mazda as doing 109mph. Should it be considered strange therefore that I have had 111mph at only 6.5 revs. (theoretically the car still has a thousand revs to play with before it starts to redline) I was wondering if I might be able to get past 115mph. (11/99)

Autocar Road Test Data:
Original 1.6i - actually 1598cc - 115bhp - tested 14 March 1999
Top (mean) 114mph - 6065rpm
Top(best) 116mph - 6170rpm
0-60 - 9.1 secs

1.8i - actually 1839cc - 128bhp - tested 9 February 1994
Top 115mph - 5800rpm
0-60 - 10.1 secs (wet track)

Reasons for little difference in figures:
1. Greater weight - up from 949kg to 1020kg
2. Longer final drive ratio
Remember cars often don't reach max revs in top gear (11/99)
