Yesterday we tried to get our 97 mx5 through the swedish version of MOT but failed because we have a Jackson racing CAI, cat and branch pipe. These have not been approved in Sweden and the general agent of Mazda in Sweden has no intention of helping out. So, we need to find proof and documents that these changes are accepted elsewhere and preferably a Mazda source that approves of these changes. Only then can we perhaps convince the swedish MOT and be allowed to keep our MX5 as is, otherwise we have to return all the original parts before april 10. I am hoping that somebody, somewhere out there can help us. What we need in particular is documentation of emissions tests. (3/00)

I'm afraid you could have a big problem here. In the USA, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) has set emission standards that all kit has to pass for aftermarket manufacturers to sell the item in California. In practice, MX5 aftermarket manufacturers only sell stuff that will pass. So maybe Jackson Racing or whoever can send you a certificate that the exhaust meets CARB standards.

But whether Swedish authorities will accept that is quite another matter.

In the UK, you can do pretty well anything so long as it actually passes an MoT test or roadside emission test, doesn't offend anyone with the noise or poses a danger to other road users. You sometimes get away with outrageous things (for a while!), sometimes you get pulled for trivial items. (3/00)
