I have a Sony Single Slot CD/Radio CDX-4180R
or something like that. It has packed up for the 2nd time in 6
months and have one last chance to be fixed before the warranty
runs out at the end of Nov.
Can anybody tell me:
a) Will a cheapo stereo from Argos fit in the meantime whilst
the unit is away for fixing (can't bear the silence)??
b) Would fitting of a new stereo (Sony or Kenwood etc) be as easy
an slotting in since all the wiring is there? (11/99)

| This subject is the bane of my life.... exactly the same problem
but with a philips tape / radio piece of shite. Am new to the gargantuan
world that is car audio, and would be grateful for any recommendations
that people can make for when I finally give in and upgrade my stereo
at Xmas. Want decent tape / radio with 6 max CD changer. Am unlikely
to ever upgrade my speakers, as seems too much like hard work,(but
you never know..) and am not bothered about pretty little graphic
fishies etc swimming across my display... just want something that
works !!!! Willing to pay up to 300 for something that I can turn
up very loud, but is still compatible with current speaker set up
!! (just give me the world...!!) Any suggestions ? (11/99) |
| I have to recommend the JVC unit, you can pick them up for around
£200 and the sound is superb. They come with a 12 stack, which is
virtually the same size as a normal 6 stack. Or else you can go
for their head unit with 3 stack in the face plate. I put some Kenwood
6.5" speakers in the doors approx £40 and the sound is clear and
loud enough to be heard with the roof down. Shop around your local
car audio specialists, they sometimes have end of range units at
a reduced price. (11/99) |
| I assume that the Sony head unit uses ISO plugs then as does Pioneer,
Blaupunkt, Clarion etc. If You get a stereo that has ISO connections
then you should have no problems in installing a new head unit,
just a straight swap. So yup easy as pie. (11/99) |
| Does anyone have a stereo wiring diagram for a Eunos, a friend
of mine is going to have a go at changing the stereo over for me
and hearing what a nightmare this could turn out to be I would be
grateful for any help. (4/00) |
| Easiest thing is to get a wiring harness adaptor from Halfords
- there are two Mazda types - forget which you need. But then it's
simple - plug and play! (4/00) |
