| What is the exact spec over and above the
1.8 Si, and colour of this model please - and if you don't mind
me asking the price ?? (11/99) |
| Based on 1.8iS. Blue/black leather seats. Blue/black leather door
inserts. Air conditioning. Hard top. Side skirts. Rear spoiler.
Front spoiler and front fog lights. Sport badging. In Twilight Blue.
That's it. Mine with an alarm and an in-dash mini-disc player was
just over 23,000. (11/99) |
| From what I can tell the Sport also has a 'sports suspension'
which I am not sure if the 1.8is or the red sport edition had. I
am assuming that this is stiffer than the 'normal' one. (11/99) |
| AFAIK, this is the same suspension fitted to the previous Sport
and the 10AE. (11/99) |
| Out of interest I thought the 10AE came
with Bilsteins, did it? I am pretty sure that the Sport I saw did
not have yellow bilsteins. Also if anyone knows did the 10AE
have a struct tower bar? (11/99) |
| The Blue Sport is a truly wonderful car, absolutely mouth-watering
- the best stock 5 ever built IMO ..... BUT the price is just appalling
;o((( Why not have *three* imported (not new obviously, but you
can find them as-good-as) 1.8 Roadsters - blue, silver and black
? Or a newish 968 Cabrio, TVR, LHD Boxster etc.etc. Unless the firm's
picking up the tab of course .... :o) (11/99) |
| If the sport is like the other UK specials, it will be a standard
1.8s with additional interior and exterior trim fitted by William
Allen. (who do a great job!) (11/99) |

I have the dealer supplied flier that details the sport, as well
as actually being the proud owner of one now, and there is nothing
to say the supension is any different to that of the anni. or
any other 1.8s for that matter.
The insurance group is higher , about 3 groups higher in fact,
mainly due to the cost of putting on the body kit, if you ever
snap it off, or have it snapped off for you.
Mechanically, there is no difference between the 1.8s purely
styling, and a/c , leather. The extras are costly, but it is a
cheaper way of doing it if you are really sold on the idea of
a hardtop, and syling kit as you get leather and A/C efferctivly
gratis .
Anyone know how many there are around ?. I was told around 400-500
as all the dealers got 2-3 each. I only know of one other owner
so far. It would be nice to know where abouts the others where
located. (11/99)

| I was fairly certain that the Sport and Anniversary
editions had uprated suspension over the standard MX-5. The
1.8iS that I test drove definately had a different ride to the 10AE
I bought.. The 10AE has a much stiffer setup due to the Bilstein
suspension that is fitted instead of the standard shocks. This is
even mentioned in the 10AE brochure and commented on in nearly all
the reviews of the 10AE in the press.. I was sure the Sport also
had this Bilstein setup? (11/99) |
| It was a limited supply (not number), but as the Sport is a UK
construct I guess the importer could make more if they wanted. I
haven't seen any others on the road, other than one of the previous
red models. However, they have only been supplied since early September
-- I picked mine up on the 11th and it was the second or third out
from the importer. Talking with the dealer it appears that allocation
was territory controlled, unlike the SE that was released at the
same time. I would guess that there may be a few hundred around
eventually. (11/99) |
| You know this is odd. When I had a UK special (Harvard), I could
only get Harvard badges, mats and other non standard goodies by
ordering them with the vehicles VIN number. I was told this would
prevent anyone from making a clone Harvard as without the VIN numbers
Mazda UK wouldn't even supply a carpet set. I guess the sport badges
are all that this particlualr slimy dealer is sticking on the 1.6i,
and it may not even be the genuine sport badge. (11/99) |
