| I'm looking for some advice ... I recently had
to have my pride and joy repaired, and the bodyshop concerned put
the roof down without undoing the rear zip. The result of this is
a really annoying couple of wrinkly bits on the rear window, this
is particularly frustrating because I only replaced the hood about
4 months ago! Does anyone have any suggestions for smoothing out
the wrinkles? (1/00) |
| The wrinkles should come out as the window gets hotter and colder

| The wrinkles should come out with time, especially if you can
park in warm sunshine (!!!!!). Or can you park in a (very) warm
garage? Or you could speed things up by gently playing a hairdryer
on the screen - but be very careful! - just get it warm to the touch-
not hot , and try to warm it evenly all over . Keep the hood up
for a while anyway, to keep the screen in tension. (1/00) |
| I've just collected my 93' MX5 from my local dealer, after
having the rear window replaced (under warranty)..... It now has
more waves in it than the Pacific...the dealer told me that they
had it in their spray bake, and with a little more heat (I.e. summer)
it will straighten out..... is this true... or have they just fitted
it wrongly.... (2/01) |
| I think that'll be a trip back to the dealers. Again Mazda UK
and their expert dealers astound me. If they were supplied with
a dodgy screen (although unlikely)they should have sent it back.
I can't think of a single sensible reason why they would put a car
in their spray bake that wasn't having paint work. (2/01) |
| When I had my mkI soft top and replaced the plastic rear screen
that was very wavey too. I was also told that it will unwrinkle
after a while, but it didn't. Turns out the only way to sort it
is to have the zip resewn into the material and the plastic pulled
more taut (is that bad Engish?). Take it back and tell them you
want one that is unwrinkled to start with, if they won't replace
it, get them to produce a written guarantee that they will replace
it in the summer if it doesn't unwrinkle itself. (2/01) |
| The zip has to be replaced at the same time as the rear window,
this is because the pitch of the zip that comes with the rear window
panel is different to the zip that is attached to the roof, in my
experience the waves on the rear window will worsen in time, there
is a technical bulletin that the mazda dealer would have regarding
this problem, so they should have no excuse putting it right. (2/01) |
| Check that they actually supplied a genuine Mazda part. At one
local Mazda dealer over here it took them 3 attempts to supply an
actual Mazda top as opposed to aftermarket effors (the difference
in fit is astounding..). (2/01) |
| Mine was fitted by a dealer 3 years ago and still has waves.
Never bothered to have it taken off and re-aligned though. I guess
it is due to the zips mis-aligned slightly. (2/01) |
| Here's a company discovered in Exchange and Mart that I haven't
heard of before http://www.purspexvision.com/
I'm sure they had a price list in the printed version (can't check
- was just reading it in Tescos) - but there's not much price info
on the website There's online instructions for replacing an MX-5
rear window (5/01) |
