| My eunos has a new robbins hood. When going ove a bump there
is a rattle like two bars hitting each other , Has anyone had a
similar rattle..I sounds like coming from the rear parcel shelf
area..any suggestions (12/99) |
| Sounds as though the metal bars around the rim of the hood base
(inside) aren't bolted up properly - or something else is loose
in that area. Check for leaks in the parcel shelf area too. (12/99) |
| Is this a sort of knocking/rattle when you go over hard bumps?
It seems to come from behind the passenger seat, on the parcel shelf
area below the window? I get this too on my 10AE. Really starting
to irritate me to be honest. (1/00) |
| It seems to come from the back, where the soft top disappears
under the car body, just in front of the hood. ( sorry can't find
a better description). The window, when going over bumps or even
at constant high speed, rattles and causes the top to rattle against
the frame that is meant to fasten the soft top cover (the plastic
black rail on the back). Only possible solution I can think of is
to use some isolation tape the one for window frames and stick it
the rail. The rattle will stay but will be silent. Or at least I
hope so! Haven't tried yet though. (1/00) |
| This is definately the same rattle, your description is spot on.
Your suggested remedy might well work, musr try it at the weekend.
If I press my finger on the upper part of the window it usually
stops but if I press the bottom it always stops? (1/00) |
| That's the one. Did the finger trick and it works. Don't do it
anymore, just turn the music louder. I have to spare some time and
fix this. It really gets to me this rattling!! (1/00) |
| I had a strange rattle from behind the drivers seat once. Tracked
it down to the wheel brace knocking the inside of the spare wheel
on hitting a bump. One piece of foam later no rattles. (1/00) |

Just a few bits of information gleaned from the past few weeks
of hunting down noises from the soft top. The car sounded as if
it was falling apart on every bump, and all I'd done was take
the hardtop off!
(1) Do the obvious thing and check that the latches are tight
and the not so obvious.....
(2) There's a complicated joint above the middle of the driver/passenger
window. On my soft top that joint wasn't extending fully with
the top raised - try pulling down on the various bars at that
joint to fully extend it.
(3) Some of the screws holding the hooked thingys above the windscreen
that the latches grab were loose - tighten them (4/01)
