| I have just had my insurance renewal
through for a massive £630!!!!! Last year it was £520 and considering
that I moved house 3 months ago and got a £17 refund and now have
2 years no claims instead of one something isn't quite right. I
have tried a few in the yellow pages and got down to £585 with the
AA, does anyone have any other ideas. (11/99) |
| The MX-5 Owners Club have an insurance
scheme with Aon Insurance Services.
You have to be a member of the club to be able to get this cover.
The direct number for a quote is 01384 552660 (12/02) |

I settled in the end with Barclays ( yes the bank! ) for
£670 and 100 excess. their number is 0870 600 1414.
Policies vary, and so do the prices, look around, everyone is
different, but give these a go, you never know ?! (11/99)

Other good ones, were Hyperformance , sterling ins (part of Adrian
Flux) (£592 ex 350) and Hastings direct.
NB. You can also arrange the full RAC package through Barclays
for only £30 ( normally over 100 ! ) (11/99)

However, I ended up insuring my car with Privilage Ins (0113

| A company that I don't think I have seen mentioned so far in the
chat about Insurance is AXA Direct. They are the ones who
have consistently come up with the best quote for me. (11/99) |
| I've been with Aon for 5 years with classic
cars and they always preferred/required you to belong to an owner's
club - I guess they figured you'd look after your cherished possession
better (some logic to this). As they've now moved to covering some
modern cars as well they probably apply the same logic. (11/99) |
| You could give QuoteWizard http://www.quotewizard.co.uk/
, the quote I received from them was over £1000 cheaper than others
I have been given. (11/99) |
| Performance Marque 0121 248 0911 .. heavily modified cars
are only touched by Norwich Union through an agent such as above.

| There's a list of insurers on the Wessex Area MX5 Owners Club
site (http://mx-5.org/wessex)
which may help. (11/99) |

I know the insurance saga goes on and on but anything that saves
"5" enthusiasts money can't be bad.
I have just renewed insuarance on my 5 through Footman James
of Birmingham tel:- 0121 561 4196.
After hearing all the horror stories I came clean about it being
an import and was pleased to be told that they accept imports
on the same terms as UK spec. Fully Comp, me and wife to drive,
social domestic and pleasure (plenty of that) plus full business
use for me
Only 239.40
But I am an old git with max. protected no claims and no endorsements.

| I'm about to purchase an MX5 (as soon as I find a good example).
As my current car is worth so little, I am considering keeping it
to use as a bad weather (i.e. snow/salty roads) and to carry stuff
around. I am looking for a dual car insurance policy as I am the
only driver of both vehicles I don't really want to be paying for
2 seperate policies. I know some while ago some companies were offering
good deals. Anyone had any luck in this area? I shouldn't have to
pay twice the insurance surely? (9/00) |
| I got both mine through the admiral. They did both cars and allowed
me to use my single car no claims over the 2 seperate car policies.
The only one I found that would. They were cheep too, haggle with
them and the price will come down. (9/00) |
| Churchill do too. However you have to have at least 3 years "no
fault" claims, regardless of whether or not you have full NCD for
them to apply your NCB to both policies. (9/00) |

| For all you girls out there, if it's time to renew your car insurance,
try diamond insurance - they're for women only. My insurance
is due mid month, and I was quoted 679 by my current insurers (Eagle
Star). I've had a load of other quotes from the usual sources, which
were all around the 950 mark... I called Diamond Insurance and they've
quoted 450. My details were female 31, mx5 1.8is, 13 years full
uk licence, central london location, on street parking, 5 years
protected no claims, one claim in the last 3 years. I called the
guys at AON afterwards to get another quote and they said I shouldn't
even bother calling anyone else because I'd never get a lower quote.
