I probably need some new plug leads (My cars on about 38K)
My questions are:-
1) Do I need to change the plugs also at the same time.
2) What do people recomend I get?
Being picky I would like red in colour leads. (12/99) |
| You don't /need/ to change the plugs, unless they're shot - but
not a bad idea anyway. No question about the plug leads - use Magnecor
from Moss (about £56) - see www.magnecor.com
to find out why! (12/99) |

Best = Magnecore
Red = Magnecore .. it has been chosen for you ..
Moss or other tuning suppliers. ..
Plugs should be cleaned and gap checked as a min .. I always
bought new ones with a car (along with igniton leads, points,
filters and a battery) and then used them for the 14,000 miles
it took me to sell the car.. check if there is a significant step
on the earth tang .. if so they are getting on. (12/99)

Blue are 7mm and 8mm and OK, but cost nearly as much as the red
KV85 (8.5mm) which are competition spec and the recommended ones.
They also do R-100 10mm ones (also red), but you don't need them.
Most blue ones you will see around are NGK - they are a big improvement
on the original factory ones - they were fitted to later cars
in production. Most people find them OK too - but the Magnecor
KV85 are the ones to go for. See www.magnecor.com

| After a couple of you said for me to purchase some new silicon
ignition leads, I went out to have a look at the ones that I've
got on currently. Two of them have an amount of oil on the leads
that I presume has come from the plugs. Is this normal and, if not,
what could it be down to and what could be done to change it? (2/00) |
| You can get oil leaks in the spark plug bores, wipe up the oil,
clean the leads up with a rag and petrol, spray with WD40 and monitor
any problems, if the leads are in any way suspicious replace them
.. you are going to have to at some point and you might as well
extract the most from them .. Magnecores are the nicest. .. they
are red whereas the NGKs are blue, stock ones are brown/grey.. Magnecors
8.5mm are reckoned to be the best; telephone 01675 46711 £45
+VAT if you tell them the MX-5 OC sent you. 01675 465166. (2/00) |
| Looking on the Magnecor website they have three categories
for my 1991 Eunos, 8mm, 7mm and KV85, whilst the ones in the Moss
brocuhure are 8.5mm????? What is the difference and which ones do
you recommend? (1/01) |
| KV85 are the ones - they are the 8.5mm ones which Moss sell. Actually
not much difference in price - 7mm are economy and you shouldn't
use them for any car, 8mm are just not as good as the 8.5mm and
they are nearly the same price. You can get them direct from Magnecor
with a club discount. (1/01) |
