| For some time I have been smelling a petrol smell in the cockpit
when the car has been for a run, then I leave it a bit and start
the engine again. The first 10 - 15 seconds of the heater blower
becomes petrol vapour, I thought this might have been the heater
matrix, but I noticed today that the whole engine bay is smelling
of petrol after a run. This is not easy to solve I know but its
driving me up the wall. Are there any likely places where the petrol
might be leaking from, is there a pertrol filter in the engine bay
that could be mis fitted........? (12/99) |
| There is a charcoal canister that is supposed to "soak
up" excess petrol in the manifold and then release it once the engine
is warm. As you've probably sussed by now I'm a bit wooly on exactly
how it's all connected up, but this sounds like a possibility. Any
other kind of petrol leak would be *very* obvious because of the
high pressures involved. Both fuel pump and filter are at the back
of the car. (12/99) |
| The heater matrix has gone on my Laguna, it smells of sweet sickley
stuff, definitely not Petrol. Check all the hoses & connections
for leaks, and carry a fire extinguisher, just in case! (12/99) |
