| I went tolook at a Eunos today 1991. White. The car seemed
OK except the paint on the bumpers was flaky and peeling off. The
dealer said that this was common due tot he plastic and not due
to respray or accident. Does anyone have any experience with this
sort of problem? (11/99) |
| My paint peeled due to a number plate flexing the plastic. About
100 quid to respray the bumper (from memory) and 5 quid for a sticky
plate. (11/99) |
| The bumper are plastic. The only time I have seen peeling paint
on a plastic bumper is after a bodged repair. It would need a respay,
and doing properly this time. :( (11/99) |
| The usual cause is the use of the wrong paint at a body shop and
poor preparation. Because the bumpers are designed to be flexible,
both the primer and top coat need extra elasticisers (spelling?)
in the paint mix. If the job is done 'on the cheap', and there are
other panels to be sprayed at the same time, they save a few quid
by using normal paint on the bumpers. (11/99) |
| Early (first two years of production) white mx-5s are prone to
this, especially if the car spends much time in the sun. This is
widely reported over in the states, and the only solution is a respray
of the affected areas. Maxda just just changed over to water based
paints and the white paint did nit stick correctly.(11/99) |
| I imported a red one last summer that had paint peeling all over
the front nose section. There were no signs of accident damage though
so it probably is common in the warmer parts of Japan.(11/99) |
| I wouldn't believe the dealer. I had my front repainted 3 times,
and the only time I saw it peeling was after a accident. The front
needs to be prepaired before you paint it.(11/99) |
| Paint peels if it is sprayed on but not baked on, especially on
plastic. I know from experience on a previous car. (11/99) |
| I am posting this on behalf of an owner that we met today
at the South Central Area Christmas Drive and Meal. She bought a
new 5 from a Mazda dealer in Bognor in June 98. The car has had
problems with paint on the sills blistering and then cracking and
chipping. Mazda and the garage have refused to do anything about
it saying that it is just stone chips but she is convinced that
this is not the case. Has anyone else on the list had this problem
(or anything like it) with their car? (11/99) |
