| Can anyone give me any helpful hints about fitting
a rear box to a Mk2? Also do I need to buy a new gasket or anything
to fit it? (3/00) |
| Probably don't need a new gasket for the Mk2 yet, but they're
only a couple of pounds from Mazda, so worth having it spare, just
in case. You'll find soaking the nuts attaching the back box in
WD40 overnight helps. Soapy water is great for getting the exhaust
hangers off. Watch the positioning of the tailpipe in regards to
the rear tow hook bracket; larger bore pipe can foul on this, and
aftermarket boxes tend to heavier than stock, and s the standard
hangers can stretch (hence the box can move around a bit). Some
use uprated rubber hangers to fit, but nylon straps wrapped around
the hanger (squeezing it so the exhaust is pulled up) works well.
Replacement hangers from Mazda are pricey at about Pds8 each, but
they shouldn't need replacing yet. (3/00) |
