DIY low fuel warning light:(MS Word) (Thanks to John Cookson). (3/01)
Having followed the recent discussion I have now looked at the instructions for building a low fuel warning light. I guess that it was written for the Mk 1. Does anyoneknow if it also applies to the Mk 2? There are bound to be some differences in the wiring between different aged cars? I wouldn't like to go to the trouble of building one and connecting it to find that the warning light only comes on above 5000rpm cos I've inadvertantly hooked it up to the rev counter (or something)!!! Been liasing with John on this and the Mazda manual is sadly lacking in the diagnostic info to make sure the information is the same or not as the MK1, resistance values etc. Only info is of a test nature to see if the gauge is working across terminals. (3/01)

Yep, 'twas me.

Dunno if it works exactly as stated on a Mk 2. Check the plugs behind the speedo. If there's a yellow wire in the end position of the left hand plug, that's probably the fuel wire. You could connect a lead to it and check the voltage at various states of tank full/empty. If it's about 0.5 volts full and about 6.5 volts empty, it'll be the same as for a Mk 1 (which is probably the case).

But you are right to be cautious - Mk2 dashboard wiring is certainly different in some respects. I don't have any info. (3/01)
