I use a leather balsam called Renapur. I originally bought it
at the NEC motor show but I have seen it for sale in department
stores. They usually demonstrate on shoes and then explain it
works on any leather product (car seats, settees, handbags, belts
etc).
Advantages: It helps prevent cracking and scratching and also
makes the leather waterproof (water just runs off). As I often
park the car with the roof off, I find it ideal. It's neutral
in colour so can be used on any coloured leather. (Blue/Black
in my 10AE).
Disadvantage: It's quite greasy with a base containing beeswax.
It's hard to rub it in completely and leaves behind a slippy coat.
I tend to leave this on for as long as possible then, before driving,
wipe the seats, gear knob and steering wheel over with kitchen
roll to stop it going all over my clothes; although I'm sure it
would wash out. I have the suede effect inserts in my 10AE seats
and it wipes off pretty easily if I slip.
I don't use a cleaner, the Renapur stops it getting dirty. (6/00)
