| My passenger side front headlamp has seemed to
work itself loose on one of the ball joint thingies. On bumps it
now moves by about 5 mm. up and down which I'm sure irritates anyone
coming the other way and me because I know it's doing it. It doesn't
appear as if there are any screws that could be tightened in this
particular joint. Has anyone got experience fixing this? (5/01) |
| I guess your lights problem is wear in the nylon socket. Can't
really see that you can do much about it except replace the socket
(which might mean replacing the rod) Make sure that the short arm
from the motor is tight on it's attachment. I have seen reference
to an adjustable stop, but as far as I can see that only works on
the down position. Maybe someone will suggest a good solution. (5/01) |
| If your light is wobbly, there is an "up" stop you can adjust
but you have to take off the top cover to get at it; the black plastic
side covers are held on with 4 posi screws, when this is off you
can see the 4 8mm AF bolts that hold the top cover on. Just loosen
these &slip off the top cover to reveal...... the up stop. adjusting
this should stop any wobbling, you may have to re-adjust the headlight
too. (2 of the screws at the front - the ones that are still accessible
when you put the plastic side covers back on. When you put the top
cover back on you'll be able to get it spot on flush with the bonnet!

| Has anyone had a problem with play in the pop-up
headlamp linkage? Mine has about 5mm of play on the headlamp assembly,
it appears to stem from the motor unit shaft which has play in it.
The other side is fine. Has anyone had to change a headlamp motor
unit? If so, how much and how easy? (2/00) |
| I had the same problem on my '95. With mine there was an adjustment
screw on the back side with a rubber bumper on it. It's sort of
difficult to get to so you just have to have a look for it. (2/00) |

Since I've been driving around a lot more in the dark recently,
I've noticed that my left headlamp wobbles slightly, whilst the
right one does not. I noticed because I recently put in Hella
lamps (throughly recommended!) and the cut-off beam that sweeps
up to the left jiggles about on road signs etc. as I approach.
Further investigation revealed that the whole headlamp unit will
move by a couple of mm when both raised and lowered. I think my
car (J-Ltd-2 Roadster) had a knock on the left front quarter at
some point before I got it (probably left a bit of yellow paint
on that bus stop in Nagasaki...) and it appears to have created
a little play in the headlamp motor linkage.
I think adjusting the little rubber stop thing will prevent
the movement when the lamp is down, but I'm more concerned about
when it is raised. It must be really annoying for drivers in front
having a flickering headlamp following them! (1/01)

| There's another bump stop to limit the upward travel of the lamp
unit. It's under a curved forward-pointing arm that's clearly seen
once you take the headlamp lid off. You might like to try fiddling
with that. (1/01) |
| Mine is exactly the same. I replaced mine with Ring headlamps,
and as they were _SO_ much better than the candle lights they replaced
I noticed a distinct wobble on the left headlamp. (1/01) |
| There had been some feedback about nylon bushes in the linkage
that went AWOL .. in wear or otherwise.. (1/01) |
