How do you release the rear, external, chrome HT catches? They lock straightforward but won't open easily. Should they hinge/pivot up? Should you swivel them? Is there a special tool needed? (2/00)

Quoting from my manual:

1. Lower the side windows and pull down the sunvisors.
2. Push the unlock buttons and fully release the top and side latches.
3. Disconnect the rear heated window coupler.
4. Slide the hardtop rearward while pressing down on the rear deck (chrome) latches. Lift the hardtop straight off the body to prevent damage to the rear deck (chrome) latches and studs.

I haven't tried taking mine off yet but did get a demo when I picked my car up from the dealer. It does help to give the hard top a sharp thump rearwards with the palm of your hand. Make sure you don't overdo it as it only needs to go back an inch or two before you can lift it off (two people are needed, obviously). (2/00)
