Does anybody know where I can get the hardtop lugs from ( the ones that the clips fit onto at the side of the seatbelt posts ). (12/99)
Here's two places:

http://www.roebuckmazda.com/miata/90-93.htm#Interior
(actually it's on the exterior section same page) on Roebuck Mazda - they're cheaper - don't know about postage. Email them to ask.) (12/99)

I've just bought a hard top from a UK mark 1 owner. My Eunos Roadster does not have the silver pegs/bolts at the back (the guy selling the hard top leant me his for the time being). I am also missing the side 'striker plates' next to the seat belt posts.

My Mazda dealer told me that I would need to get :-
new seat belt post trims = £37 each +vat !
back posts = £12 each +vat !
side striker plates = about £20 each +vat

I got the roof home with the borrowed back posts and all does seem well apart from a 'rattle' when on bumpy ground.

So here are the questions ! I can see the point of attachment for the side striker plates behind the seat belt posts - My feeling is to just attach the side striker plates to these points and modify the existing trims - any comments/tips on this ? (8/00)

When I bought my car in Dublin I asked for a hardtop, but the had never had one fitted. The dealer swapped my bolts for the extended back posts, and gave me the side clamps (loose in the glovebox). I drove it 300 miles home like this without a single rattle. You may just need to tighten down the back posts slightly. I've since found out that the Japanese trim panels have the holes marked on the back so you do not need trim panels - you just need to take yours off and cut them. The other bits, you will need to buy but try to get them second hand. (8/00)

The side latch strikers go between the back of the door aperture and the belt posts - ie in front of the belt towers by my reckoning.. Surely you can't see the attachment points, unless you've taken the trim off?

You don't need new trims - just cut the old ones (carefully!) to suit. The parts list is for Mazda dealers' benefit, who don't take any time to modify or repair existing parts - anything not exactly right is simply taken off and binned and replaced with the correct item. You can't afford the labour charges for them to do anything else!

The rattle will be because you haven't got the side latch strikers. The back posts are known to us all as 'Frankenstein bolts' :-) (8/00)
