| I have a mkII.(glass rear window). I think this
is significant because there is a subdued, persistant rattle coming
from behind my left ear. If I reach back and press the glass window
it appears to stop. I have searched,I've tried to induce it . I
have stripped and stuffed every cavity in the boot "oooh!", no joy.
Has anybody got any ideas.(1/00) |
| I have this rattle too on my MK2. I thought it's because of the
glass window that seems to rattle against the frame on the back
of the car (or where the top is fastened to, don't know exactly).
But there was a long debate on the US list and somebody found out
that the tension spring that is used to hold the boot open was responsible
for the rattle. Haven't checked yet and had the tick when driving
home tonight. (1/00) |
| You've got it -it's the very same rattle, it seems to diminish
or vanish in the wet or when the hood is wet (I think). if I touch
the glass it stops but if I tap the glass it doesn't induce it!

| Somebody on the list had a MK1 with a glass window that rattled.
His problem was caused by the flap of the hood at the top and outside
of the window. It was tapping against the window panel. He cured
it with draft excluder (the foam stick-on type) in the gap. Does
this help or confuse? (1/00) |
| I know exactly what you mean and I have already done precisely
what you suggest and I thought I had cured it, But it has returned
(I wonder if the draft excluder has come adrift). I'm sure we are
on the right lines all the same-- I'm convinced thats where the
problem is. (1/00) |
