| Are there any front holders to fit the no plates onto so as
to avoid drilling holes in the bumper? (12/99) |
| Available from Moss, priced £18.80
inc vat. Looks pretty much identical to the ones on UK spec cars.

My 1990 UK MX-5 has the original specification plate holder that
bolts on underneath - looks an afterthought though. (12/99)

... but that needs 2 holes drilled into the bumper .. which the
early cars did not as they had a bent L shaped bracket that used
two bolt holes in the top ot the mouth .. same for Euni and MX5.
This bracket is easy to make but was prone to damaging the bumper
when someone leant on it .. put brake bleed nipple rubber protectors
on the back of the bolt threads to save the paint work (Glasgow
dealers solution).
Later '5' and Roadsters went on to have different plastic frames
that require holes in bumper .. at different positions of course

| Fit a sticky plate. About five quid from most car places (remember
to get white not yellow!). Looks great and in four years of sticky
wearing I've never been hassled for it despite a few speeding pulls.

| Stick on plates are illegal...but, if you dont 'take the piss'
ie deviatae from the standard lettering size, style and spacing
I dont think you will have bother from the police. I certainly havent
and I've had mine for over 11months now. I made sure the spacing
and size etc were all standard and even put a black border round
the stickon. It looks the dogs nads! Lots of other people on the
list have had stick ons for years with few problems. Id say go for
it! (12/99) |
| Can anyone tell me the size of the rear number plate for a
Eunos Roadster that I need to get made up?, nobody seems to know
the dimensions at the places!. (4/00) |
|
The standard size "Jap" plate supplied by Jepsons is 6"x13".
This is intended to be fitted with MCycle letters (2-1/2") which
caused my run in with the law a few weeks back.
The maximum size of plate that can be fitted to a Roadster's
tail is 7"x15" - you need to radius the corners. You can fit legal
3-1/8" letters, and it doesn't look too bad, but the spacing (between
rows) and margins will still be illegal. (Unless you have a short
number) (4/00)

I know all you Roadster owners have been waiting with bated breath
for resolution of the number plate issue - ie the fact that legal
rear number plates cannot be fitted to Roadsters (unless you have
a particularly short number) Well, the issue has finally been
resolved - DVLA have issued a (very vague) specification for "Display
of Vehicle Registration Marks on Imported Vehicles" This is what
it says:
(Ref. http://tinyurl.com/la7
item 5)
Quote: Display of Vehicle Registration Marks on Imported Vehicles
(which have a restricted space for a standard sized number plate)
Certain imported vehicles may be permitted to display number plates
with smaller characters if: The vehicle does not have European
Community Whole Vehicle Type Approval AND The vehicle's construction/design
cannot accomodate stadnard (sic) size number plates Specifications
for smaller sized plates (for certain imported vehicles)
Character Height 64mm
Character Width 44mm
Character Stroke 10mm
Space between characters 10mm
End quote
If you do some calculations you will find that this will accommodate
a rear number plate on a Roadster quite comfortably. (4/03)
