| Are Eunos body parts the same as MX5 body
parts? My insurance company is telling me the parts have to come
from Japan. (11/99) |
| Coming to your question about differences in the cars. It's virtually
all Mazda UK generated hype. The cars are all built on the same
production line - no way are they going to use different panels,
put on less rust proofing etc, etc,. for UK cars. - it would make
no economic sense whatsoever. The differences that exist between
Japanese and UK market cars are well known and pretty minimal (different
rear number plate panel, speedo, radio frequencies, no rear fog
light, maybe ECU settings - debatable). How Mazda UK keep up the
sham is by having completely different part numbers - Japanese &
UK - for the same parts, and refusing to provide cross-references.
To check out panels I'd phone the Scimitar MX5 spares people who
plug themselves a bit on the list and definitely do front wings,
or even phone local motor factors from yellow pages. There are now
loads of Japanese replacement parts available from factors. (11/99) |
| Doors are identical!!! As long as you stick with the door from
the same year and engine size. If you want proof, ask a Mazda dealer
the part number for the "UK" door and I'll be able to confirm whether
it is the same as the Japanese part number. On the other hand, if
your insurance and you are willing to replace the damaged door with
a second hand one, I've got a few Eunos doors left. Admittedly they'll
need respray but at least the other guy's insurance is going to
pay for it. Irrespective of whether you buy from me or not, I'll
help you as much as I can to get your car back on the road by giving
you as much info as possible. (Jay Ng)

| As you have found out Mazda want to charge the earth and want
to make you wait for ever for parts. There is a better way. Either
you or your repairers should talk to Ka
Yu Autoparts (024 7631 8729) or Jay
Ng (01435 864573?) Both these people break roadsters. So
they should be able to supply any parts you need. They also can
import any parts they don't have. (11/99) |
| You can explain to your insurance company that I have all the
body part numbers for the Eunos Roadsters. You can mention that
I have sold quite a few body panels to repair shops for MX5s (UK
Spec) and I have not had anyone call me back with problems. (Jay
Ng) (11/99) |
| All the parts in question are identical to UK ones, and don't
let anybody tell you otherwise 92 was the year they started fitting
side impact bars, but not in all markets. So your car may or may
not have them, and likewise for the replacement - but it's not critical
This "three week" bulls**t is all about MCL making life hard for
eunos owners. They know full well that stories like this will put
off people buying imports. (11/99) |

These are the different doors for the Eunos Roadster
Pre- August 92 1600 type door
Post- August 92 1600 type door
1800 type door
All of the above would fit a Roadster of any age. They may be
slightly different each other but it doesn't mean that they can't
be fitted to the same car. I know that this is done to the Roadsters
straight out of the factory anyway. On some of the 1600 Limited
editions Roadsters, 1800 doors were fitted!! To make a certain
L-edition more appealing, the better speaker set-up (separate
tweeters and midrange door speakers) were used and the 1800 doors
are the only ones with the extra holes pre pressed to hold the
OEM crossovers. Note: 1600 door cards have the removable speaker
grille and 1800 door cards don't.
Most main importers report to insurance companies that the parts
are different on the imports. They won't say that they'd still
fit, just different!! Give me a UK spec shell and I bet that I
could rebuild it with Eunos parts. Set this challenge to Mazda
UK and they will not take me up on it.
BTW this also applies to engine as long you keep to the same
year. I fitted a 1600 Eunos engine with all the ancillaries to
a MX5 a few weeks back. No need to swap the ECU. (Jay

I can confirm what has already been said, All panels are the same
for Eunos as for MX5. Regards

| Sorry to hear about your problems. But on the good side - the
panels are the same. I had a little accident about a year ago and
it resulted in the front drivers side wing, bumper, front light
cluster and headlight cover in being replaced. These were replaced
by UK parts. I asked the garage if they had any problems fitting
the parts. and their reply was 'no problems at all - they fitted
perfectly' (11/99) |
| Popped into the local Mazda dealer this am to collect the part
I ordered on Tuesday. Talked to the counter guy about Roadster parts/Mazda's
attitude. He thinks it's getting easier. There are certain parts
(rear boot panel, badges, wheel centre thingy's) where an order
to Mazda has to be accompanied by a chassis number and full customer
details. This is because they suspect that dealers may try to disguise
a Roadster as a UK spec car. But for everything else (eg body, mechanical
parts) my guy is perfectly happy to look in his parts book and order
the part under a UK part number. It's what he does for all bits.
So if you are having trouble with a garage or repairer saying they
have to order a part with a japanese part number from Japan - rubbish.
With the UK part number and it can be ordered and delivered within
two days max for nearly everything - a week (rarely) if it has to
come from Belgium (where the main warehouse is). (11/99) |
