OK, for all you folks with the desire to drive with your top down in winter, Holden just sent me a great mailshot. As well as doing a great line in Smiths clocks and other gauges, Holden now sell a heated waistcoat. Mens or Ladies versions, dial a heat setting, maintains blood flow and prevents your brain numbing. It's even machine washable for those times you get too hot. They also have leather gauntlets, biggles helmets and goggles if you want them :( Check out www.holden.co.uk, or phone 01885 488488 (+44 1885 488488 outside UK)

I came across the following web site http://www.autoshop-online.com/auto101.html yesterday, which if you are like me and not the most mechanicaly knowledgeable person in the world is very useful. It breaks the car down into sections and explains in good detail but also in easy english exactly what all the component parts do. (11/99)

Hello all, Anyone else seen the AutoCar mag this week, A Single seater MX5 which takes inspiration from the 50's racers Jaguar D-type and lotus 11. Its called the Miata Mono-Posto concept. It has a new front / rear bodywork, half cut doors, cut down window, cowl-mounted mirror and aluminium rollbar. Power is said to be from a turbocharged and intercolled version of the 1.8 engine developed by HKS. Power is up 36% to 190bhp and torque 243lb ft. Based on a Mk 2 shape Inside is a single racing seat, F1 style steering wheel and custom instruments. "The Mono-Posto is for someone who wants to be alone with the road, focused purely on driving," says Tom Matano, Mazdas head of global design. Revealed at the Las Vegas tuning show the car is a one off......currently. -------------------- I have to say looking at it, I'll keep mine thanks but add the supercharger !!! at least two people and their luggage can be 'at two with the road' ..........as for Vegas if anyones been there then they will know its mad, and anything goes anyway... I'm a Mk2 fan, and not generally too keen on the Mk1 but if this isn't the most menacing looking '5 to ever grace a rear-view mirror then bring on the competition! http://www.mx5.ch/images/Mitglieder%20Photos/Willener_Vorne.jpg

I found this website while looking for Mazda Scalextric cars. Basically it's his collection of Mazda models from all over the world, there are quite a few I've never seen before. Unfortunately he dosn't seem to sell them, just collect them :( http://home.wxs.nl/~vaal0002/ (6/00)

Presumably you want the actual meaning of the words "Eunos" and "Miata" not the fact they refer to particular ranges of cars...

EUNOS - from a previous posting of mine to the list: I've been doing some research into the meaning of the word "Eunos" but not come up with anything definite - it's only mentioned in passing on http://www.miata.net/faq/faq2.html#G whereas the possible derivation of the word "Miata" is covered in detail.

The word however appears to be Greek from this passage from
http://www.diaspora-net.org/macedonia/Macedonia_FAQ.html
:
"It is worth mentioning that in that same passage Herodotos used the word 'EUNOS' (nowadays it means 'people'...) for the ancient Pelasgian and Hellenic people ('EUNH')." However inserting "Eunos" into an on-line Greek/English dictionary didn't come up with anything - and I don't know the derivation of Greek plurals (you'll bee glad to know) However there's a district called Eunos in Singapore (see http://www.chsscout.net/rescenter/maps/mapeunos.jpg) so that's a more likely source (like the Ford Cortina and Granada, etc.) - or perhaps it was just dreamed up like many car names...

MIATA: http://www.miata.net/misc/reward.html seems to be the fullest analysis - several possible derivations are mentioned Alternatively from http://www.connect.ab.ca/~wildrose/arc_1998/musings_v4-06.htm:

What Does the Word Miata Mean? For those of you who've been in the Miata scene for a long time, you probably already know the story concerning the word. For those of you new to the car, here's the definition from the online Webster's Dictionary: Main Entry: meed, Pronunciation: 'mEd, Function: noun, Etymology: Middle English, from Old English mEd; akin to Old High German miata reward, Greek misthos, Date: before 12th century, 1. archaic : an earned reward or wage, 2. a fitting return or recompense (5/01)
