| When I have my stereo turned up loud, I get a slight
buzz from the passenger door when there's deep bass. If I press
the door arm rest pretty hard then it stops, likewise if I pull
it. I've made sure the armrest is screwed in tightly and it seems
fine (I once took the panel off for something - can't remember what!).
Anyone any ideas...? Damned annoying... (1/00) |
| The buzz comes from something inside the door. Take the doorpanel
off and give the door a few bangs with your hand. If something is
loose you'll notice immediatly. Probably one of the rods for the
locks which rattles a bit or so. (1/00) |
| When I got the car back from its MOT I noticed that the drivers
door seems to have dropped slightly. Could this be a "Trainee Mechanic"
leaning on the door whilst drooling over my leather interior? Anyway
it's done now so I need to fix it. On my old Nova I just opened
it up fully and lifted the car up by it's door - don't want to do
that on this one unless it's tried and tested. (5/00) |
| I tried but couldn't get it quite far enough - even though I was
practically lifting the car by it's door! (5/00) |

It is /just/ possible to get a socket on to the bolts which hold
the lower hinge if you release the bottom of the wing (2 bolts
at lowest point) and pull it out. It feels very brutal, and you
need to protect the edge of the wing from the sockets/driver.
It helps if you release the bolt half way up the back edge of
the wing, but you need to do that from the wheel arch and that
means removal of the underwing shield. You will at least be able
to clear out all the leaves, debris and assorted celebrities from
behind the mud-flap area...........
If the heaving on the door trick doesn't work, and you don't
like the above, I'm afraid you have to remove the wing - and to
do that you have to remove the nose. Allow half a day! (5/00)
|
| You don't need to remove the nose totally to get the wing off;
you can loosen the nose on both sides just enough to allow a spanner
on the one bolt bolt that is covered by the nose. Took me about
2 hours to get a wing off. To take the nose fully off, I guess you'll
need help, especially refitting it. You need very long arms and
all the power of the Force (ie, you're trying to locate the bolt
totally blind) to get to the bottom door hinge mount with the wing
fixed on. (5/00) |
| The door should be nearly closed to do this .. think about how
you are bending the hinge .. if fully open when bent you will cause
the door to be twisted when closed .. I think I might of done it
on one '91 car .. but those hinges are pretty tough compared to
Citroen's and you get some serious pain registers from your hands
before it moves :-) (5/00) |
| I've seen these chrome door edge guards on other peoples 5's
and want to get some myself for those times when I throw the door
open onto another car / brick wall etc etc. I've looked on the majority
of the accessories pages but with no joy. (8/00) |
| Do they really protect your door? The chrome will dent as easily
as the door and its reflective surface will make the dent stand
out a mile! The previous owner of my car had used door protectors
- the constant movement of the protector has nicely scuffed away
the paint underneath. I'd rather put a strip of rubber down the
side of my house to stop the door hitting the brick work - ideal
when I get home from work in a half awake state. Most other times
I'm just extra careful how I open the door. (8/00) |
| Try your local Mazda dealer - very much available for MK2 and
maybe they will fit the MK1 as well - not sure if it comes preformed
or on a roll ( if preformed it will be a job and a half, if on a
roll a doddle ) (8/00) |
| These used to be a Mazda accessory for the Mk.1 - deleted long
ago, don't know where you would get them now. They are still a Mazda
item for the Mk.2 though. Any Mazda dealer should carry them. (8/00) |
| You can buy them from Mazda dealers .. not sure how much they
are though. (8/00) |
| Chrome door strips = "Door edge moulding set". Pt No = N053V3150F.
This is from MKII Accessories list. If someone has a MKI list and
the part number is the same, then the part has not changed and they
will fit MKI's as well. (I am of course assuming they are pre-formed
strips). (8/00) |
| From reading other responses, it appears they're thought to be
no longer available; however they were listed in the 7/90 catalogue
as Door Edge Protector Moulding - Chrome - Part No. N001 V3 150F
- i.e. the same as the Mk2. So you could get them. Most motor accessory
shops do these strips - they come on a roll - though moulding to
the groove in the door may be difficult. (8/00) |
| They are pre-formed strips, and AFAIK, are not interchangeable.

| I have fitted some chromed plastic door guards to my '5. I believe
you can find these at your local Halfords. They are called 'Porta
Stop' and made by a german company. Cost was about 4 quid. You have
to push them on the edge, some glue keeps them attached. You can
easily remove them. Picture under http://perso.libertysurf.de/Harald/barbaratours/300700/zwischenstop.jpg
(number plate MX567, but you can hardly see the door edges) (8/00) |
