| Can anyone confirm that the pins on a '97 1.8 diagnostics
connector are the same as the earlier 1.6 cars - as in this diagram:
http://www.miata.net/garage/ignition.html#timing?
I want to play with the timing, but the diagnostics connector cover
on my car has no label on it - just need to double check. (5/00) |
| They're the same as on my '95 1.8, if this helps. (5/00) |

Yep - it's the same. (There may be more pins for additional things
like ABS and the immobiliser, but the ones on earlier cars work
the same on later ones)
Note that US 97 cars have OBDII, so are completely different.

| I've wired up an LED and resistor (red LED and 1.2k ohm). I've
jumped TEN and GND and then placed the LED across B+ and FEN - it
immediately starts to flash 7 times. This is not an error code that
I've got and indeed the way I understood it, the LED will illuminate
for 5 sec first before it starts to flash. Any suggestions? (9/00) |

Did you start with the ignition switched off? It sounds from
your mail that you had it switched on when you inserted the LED.
The ignition must be off, then watch it as you switch the ignition
on (possible if you arrange things, or ask someone else to switch
the ignition on whilst you watch and count).
The initial illumination should be 3 secs. How long are the flashes
- the "ones" are 0.4 secs and the "tens" are 1.2 secs. Are you
getting 3 long and 4 short? That's 34. (9/00)
