Is it a 1.8? There's a line from the back of the air filter to
the supercharger. This allows extra idle air to bypass the AFM.
I'm told this sometimes need restricting, or even clamping shut,
on 1.8s. Either use a cable tie or a fish tank air line clamp.
You can instead plug the holes at both ends and uncap the adjustment
screw on the air flow meter. There's a metal cap over the screw
and you need to pierce this and then use a self tap screw to remove
the cap. You can then freely adjust bypass air. I'm told the screw
is capped for some emissions rules reason.
It's also worth doing the TEN/Gnd thing and adjusting the idle
mix screw on the throttle body to get the idle the same with the
wire both fitted and absent. Only do this with the engine toasty
warm - a 45 minute drive is better than a 15 minute one.
My 1.6 has *perfect* idle with the Sebring. I'm really impressed
as I thought maybe the idle and the closed/open transition of
the throttle would be rough, but it's all perfect. (12/99)
