| When I test drove and picked up the Roadster, on
both occasions the Cat symbol was definately lit momentarily on
start up. Now it doesn't come on under any circumstances. Is this
something as simple as a loose wire - is this common? (1/00) |
| The light is supposed to go out when you start the car. Could
be a loose wire, or a blown dash bulb. Worry if the light stays
on... (1/00) |
| Cat symbol is just a light attached to the sensor in the back
of the cat. When the cat overheats it melts the sensor and so grounds
the wire and you get a permanent light ... I think it lights up
when the ignition is on but the engine is not running.. not sure...
if it is has stopped working it could the bulb .. but who cares...
it does not for you in UK ... except to worry you that the next
MOT emissions could be failed. (1/00) |
| I have just got into my 5 after it being sat on
the drive for about two weeks, apart from the expected charge light
showing on the dash Ialso have the heat light showing just underneath
it, does anyone out there know what this means, what causes it and
how to fix it?? (1/00) |

The warning is there to show that the cat
has overheated. This could be due to cat failure - you don't need
it unless performance is affected due to it being bunged up or
it could be a sign of incomplete combustion - ie petrol getting
to the cat. (Where it burns) Often this is a sign of impending
plug lead failure - in fact changing your plug leads now may
a)save the cat
b) avoid future misfiring
c)put the warning light out (even with the bulb in place)
There is an explanation of this warning light on your sun visors.
Unfortunately - it's in Japanese!
Maybe yours was due to plug lead dampness after standing? Has
it gone away? How are your plug leads? (1/00)

Roadster had a catalytic warning light to indicate whether the
cat is overheating; this is an extra probe into the back of the
cat. The sensor just goes to earth when overheated to melt down.
it is not connected to the ECU. So presuming car runs fine; no
pops and bangs from misfires or duff petrol
1/ your cat may have died; wait for next MOT .. but you may not
need one
2/ your sensor is dead .. could be with the time .. disconnect
sensor to remove the light on dash..
anyway not a terminal problem. (1/00)
