I have a Mk2 '5 and find that when Ifirst get into the car in the mornings the brakes make the most dreadful noise as if they have seized up. Does anyone else have this problem?? If it helps the car has cover 2000 miles. I put it down to damp brake discs but there may be something more serious going wrong. (3/00)
Mine does the same. When it's been raining I always 'test' the brakes before I get off the drive way just to be on the safe side - I always get the horrible noise then but it seems to be OK after that.... until it rains again of course!! (3/00)
Does the car judder when this happens, mine usually does this when I've just washed it. (3/00)

My brakes can be a little damp and emit the odd squeek occasionally when using the brakes the first couple of times.

Also in bad rain/wet roads, the brakes lose efficacy the longer it is between uses. I hit the brake the other day after no use for 50miles in the rain and found nothing happened until I pressed the brake right down. A light press almost felt like the car got quicker!! My advice, make sure you tap the brake every so often in the wet.

I also feel the slight judder when the brakes are very cold/wet. I put this down to ABS (?), rust on the discs from the moisture (the surface usually looks covered in Iron Oxide when wet) and cold tyres. (3/00)

Interestingly, in the owners manual for a Porsche 911 it tells you to brake very hard before parking in a garage when it is wet/raining. This will heat the brake discs significantly allowing all the water to be evaporated before corrosion takes place on the surface of the discs. Sounds good advice to me... (3/00)
