I thought that I had a rattle in the hood frame but have now located it to the boot lock which is not a tight fit.. Does anyone have any idea if there is any adjustment on the lock mechanism to tighten it...or silence it? (12/99)
Yup, just undo the obvious bolts and move the whole lock mechanism in the car around until the lid latches shut easily but is held down firmly. I did this a few months back. I then locked the keys in the car 200 miles from the spares. :-( Keep the keys in the lock at all times! (12/99)
The boot release button inside the central compartment has stopped working. Has anyone any suggestions for what the cause or even better a solution to this problem, it doesn't seem to be mentioned in the Enthusiasts Workshop Manual. (3/00)

If you have a button rather than a lever, then you must have some after market setup. The OEM setup, fitted to later cars, is a mechanical lever arrangement.

If you have a lever instead, then it works a cable which pulls on the lock in the boot, behind the carpet behind the number plate. To see how it works you will need to get the little clips out that hold the carpet in. To do this lift the centre pin out with your fingernails and then pull the hole thing out. (The pin does not come out on its own.) This is a lot easier to do than to say.

With the carpet out you should see the mechanism, and hopefully the problem.

If you have a button then it is probably electrical, so they may be a fuse that has died somewhere. (3/00)

Have you recently opened the boot using the exterior lock? On the Mk 2 if you close the boot and turn the key anti-clockwise before removing it, the interior release is disabled. To return to normal unlock the boot using the key, but make sure you don't turn the key anti-clockwise before removing it. You may have done so unadvertently,. Worth a look, anyway. (3/00)
