Has anyone successfully installed one of BEGI's 13.5" "Racer" intercoolers on a car with ABS? I did and install this summer on one and found that the rubber pipe that connected the windshield washer filler neck the the actual bottle had to be removed in order to mount the intercooler resulting in a loss of the windshield washer system. Just wondering if this could have been a fluke or if anyone else has ever had the same problem (if so, what was the solution?) (1/00)
I have the normal begi intercooler, but I guess they're mounted in a similar way as the racer intercoolers. These are longer, but I suppose they the left side mounting is identical (looks the same on their web page anyway). When I installed my abs system, the intercooler was already in place. I managed to shove the rubber pipe in there though. It is squeezed almost flat, but I have no problems in filling it. So you might want to do that...first install the intercooler and then shove the pipe in there, should be possible. (1/00)
What are the recommendation on the charge cooler front? I have a 1.8 Mk1 running 8psi with the Moss BBK at 12 degrees of timing with an MSD (and Dick Bipes Mod on the way) and it's getting a little hot under there! (6/00)
It all depends on what kind of driving you do. Air/air intercoolers are good for general driving when power is required for overtaking. The intercooler cools down in the air flow when you're off the throttle (assuming you manage to find some airflow!) If you're racing, or doing the "traffic-light grands prix", you need air/water. You're lucky and have the room for water/air. Us peeps with a/c and ABS have run out of room. :-( (6/00)
Any Turbo or SC owners who've fitted intercoolers, can you let me know of a suitable donor car to rob the intercooler from. In the states everyone uses the Starion and gets the plumbing made up. Also can anyone recommend a shop who will make up the pipe work? (1/01)
I'd do some reading of the SSCOR list archives as many have gone this route. Is this for a FI application? Fueling and idling start being issues when you intercool. (1/01)
For one of the local engineering firms to make up some pipes they would need your car and would probably not be cost effective, due to the amount of time it would take, i have read that pace have a jig for making the charge cooler now but with yours being a turbo it will not be straight forward, it might be better to buy some pipe and hire a pipe bender for a weekend.
