| Does anyone know where you can buy Autometer gauges
(in particular AFR meter and boost gauge)? So far I've got Moss
and a company called Real Steel, who are the official UK Autometer
stockists (but have very little in stock). (7/00) |
| Order 'em from the US - I did, there's loads of distributors over
there. (7/00) |
| Do you think LED type air/fuel gauges have enough precision? I'm
more tempted by a DVM so I can see a couple of decimals on the O2
sensor voltage. (7/00) |
|
A lot of the guys on both the SSCOR and turbomiata lists, as
well as miataforum, seem to trust the Autometer LED gauge. The
Autometer seems to be 'safe' - some comments are made regarding
where the O2 sensor wires are spliced and problems seen.
Best price so far is ca. 50 GBP + postage from:
Real Steel Div of Embermere Ltd,
Unit 9
Uxbridge,
UB8 2JP
44-1895-440505
vs 68GBP from Moss - looking at how much from the US.
Even so, at under 60 quid I figure it's worth getting even if
I don't go FI so that I can advance the timing without worrying
about knock. (7/00)

| But the signal is sooo messy that you would just be missing the
average ... a case of watching the trees and not seeing the wood..
as in collection of trees! (7/00) |

I have ordered the Ultra-Lite AFR meter and boost gauge in 2
1/16" size together with the 2 1/16" dual gauge pod for a miata.
Chances are the A pillar pod will not fit a rhd MX-5, but there
is method in my madness. I ordered all this from www.carparts.com.
I had picked up a digital coupon (no. 2132008) from someone on
miataforum whereby for first time customers you got $50 off a
>$100 purchase.
So the order is as follows:
4301 2 1/16" Auto Meter Ultra-Lite boost gauge $38.55
4375 2 1/16" Auto Meter Ultra-Lite Air Fuel Ratio meter $44.08
20660 2 1/16" Dual Gauge Pod $18.98
coupon -$50.00
Shipping $23.36
So a grand total of $74.97 or a shade under 50 quid - if the pod
doesn't fit, so what, it's still over half the price of the two
gauges in the UK. Expected delivery from the US is 2 weeks.
Alternatively, buy a Borla exhaust for $325 with a first time
1/3 off up to $100 coupon (no. 1996007 or 2082007) - equates to
about 150 quid + shipping. The prices here for stuff are very
keen. (7/00)

Go to the Auto Meter website http://www.autometer.com
- the AFR meter is only available in the Ultra-Lite, Phantom or
Sport Comp trims.
In the end I went for the Ultra-Lite, as it was the only one
that also had a 2 1/16" boost gauge as well (others were 2 5/8")
- I've ordered these and a dual gauge pod for the A pillar (which
may not fit rhd cars). If it doesn't I'll fit the gauges in the
center vents instead. (7/00)
|
| .. the pillar gauge pod won't work on RHD .. got one .. didn't
like it before and even less when I found it would only fit upside
down! .. so never fitted.. (7/00) |
| Autometer now do some RHD pods, but the MX-5 isn't listed. I'm
considering using cups to fit the gauges near (over?) the light
and cigar lighter near the driver's left knee. I only plan to quickly
glance at them to check things are OK, and I should also be able
to see them there from the passenger seat (where I am mostly!) (7/00) |
| Isn't the 3375 a 2 1/16" AFM and the 3301 a 2 1/16" boost? (7/00) |
|
You've quoted the part numbers for the Sport-Comp series, I went
for Ultra-Lite.
Differences are:
Sport-Comp Black dial, Alu bezel, Red pointer
Phantom White dial, Black bezel, Red pointer
Ultra-Lite White dial, Alu bezel, Red pointer
Auto Meter don't make a 2 1/16" boost gauge in the Phantom and
carparts.com didn't stock the 2 1/16" boost gauge in the Sport-Comp
series. (7/00)
