| While looking for a MX-5, some of the cars I looked
at had what looked like a sun glasses holder module (with lid) where
the ash tray unit should be. Unfortunately the car I bought is not
one of these, however I wouldn't mind getting hold of one. The on-line
catalogues I've so far looked at do not have the item in. Does any
one know where I can get one from. (3/00) |
| Could this actually be a drinks holder, rather than sunglass holder.
If it is it only replaces the top part (i.e. the door) of the ashtray
and uses the bottom part for a base. Don't get rid of your ashtray.
I got mine from a company that ceased to trade last year do am not
sure where you can get one. (3/00) |

There are several variations on the drinks holder theme.
The factory holder replaces the entire ashtray, and comes with
a moulded slops tray and clip in mug holder.
The M&M Marketing one I think uses the ashtray base, and comes
with a couple of lids.
Mike Satur does a machined metal
version; dunno if this uses the ashtray base or not.
Of course, you can make a free drinks holder from the ashtray
with a simple modification:
1. Remove ashtray top (4 screws), and take off ciggie holder.
2. Reverse the top; now you can fit a can in the deepest part
of the ashtray.
Not much use if you're on the move though. (3/00)

| If you take your ashtray to bits, you can remove the stubber bar,
then line the ashtray with felt, reassemble without the stubber
and you have a nice little storage box which will take sunglasses,
mini binoculars, a very small camera, small change, rubbish, etc,etc
- all at the (small) cost of a piece of self adhesive backed felt
from a craft shop. And it still looks standard. (BTW - who ever
needed an ashtray that big?) (3/00) |
| I remember that this part (little tray, for storing sunglasses,
NOT the drink holder that is so popular in the US) could be ordered
from your Mazda dealer, it was in the accessory brochure for the
MK1. Don't know if it is still available though. (3/00) |
| It's called Mini Box part nr N001 V0 500F. I have one in my car
and it's perfect for storing my sunglasses, the inside is covered
with some felt to avoid scratches and rattles. (3/00) |
| For anyone else out there who was about to try Mazda UK - just
got off the phone with my local garage. The part number does not
match anything over here in the UK and there was nothing suitable
in their catalogue :-( (4/00) |
| I asked about this part no. at a Mazda dealer in the UK on Friday
but to no avail - has anyone else has any success? Does anyone have
a pic of this item? (4/00) |
| This part is available at the main European warehouse in Belgium.
You should be able to order through Mazda UK. Here is a description
page + pic . This is the description page for the Mini box -
ash tray replacement. NOT cheap :-( A price quote of 62.50 plus
VAT (making it about 73) (4/00) |
| Note that the part nr has changed to N001 V0 500F (was 500G) (9/00) |
