While checking the oil tonight, I had a look at the airbox/filter assembly as I aim to install an induction kit of some sort sometime. The plastic tube between the airbox and the engine (if you know what I mean) has a strangely shaped chamber in the middle of the pipe. What is this ? (2/00)
Resonance chamber .. so you loose a bit of low/medium power on a CAI .. the standing waves set up in the inlet can be tuned by changing volumes .. hence the chamber. (2/00)
Just been reading Redline and in the rear section of the mag the guy was drilling the bottom half of his airbox for power and noise apparently. :-) Does anyone have any views on the pros and cons of the above? (2/00)

Possible .. yes.
Questions ..
1. what size of muck is around that area .. should be pretty clean
2. how hot is the air .. not brilliant as the exhaust manifold is next door ... but on the move it should be cooler ..
3. how restrictive is the current feed .. pretty horrible, probably less cross sectional area than the feed to the engine .. so holes will add flow.

So on balance .. yes it should do something .. noisier and maybe a wee bit more umph for nought.. but then you could do a Cookson CAI with not much more ingenuity and time .. and get a rush from the practice of skills unused. (2/00)
